In order to determine initial success of this planting, a survival assessment was conducted in mid-July on the property. The complete assessment is included in Appendix II. Overall survival of the seedlings was very good. The percentage of trees alive ranged from 77-93%, depending on the location of the plot surveyed. Most of the trees that died were White Pine, which appears to be a result of poor nursery stock as opposed to handling or planting problems. Weeds competition was very low at that time which is very important for tree survival and growth.
