Project Background

The Long Point World Biosphere Reserve Foundation (LPWBRF) has an ongoing interest in restoration projects within the Reserve and its "zone of cooperation". The Forest Corridor Project was initiated by Directors of the Long Point World Biosphere Reserve Foundation in 1995. This project generated a lot of interest and activity from 1995-1998, involving numerous local landowners and organizations and resulting in over 130 acres of land restored to native vegetation.

Since 1998, little work had been done through the Forest Corridor Project until the opportunity arose to participate in the Canadian Biosphere Reserve Association's (CBRA's) initiative to establish ecological and education projects in Canada's six UNESCO's Biosphere Reserves. With the funding from Canada Trust Friends of the Environment Foundation, LPWBRF has been able to continue the important work of reforesting the critical links between and within existing natural areas in this ecologically significant Reserve.
