Cooperative Activities with Other Biosphere Reserves
Does the biosphere reserve have cooperative activities with other biosphere reserves (exchanges of information and personnel, joint programmes, etc...).
At the national level:
When the nomination for the biosphere reserve designation was sent to UNESCO, Long Point appointed a representative to the Working Group on Biosphere Reserves of Canada/MAB. It hosted meetings of the working group in 1985 and 1993. It was also instrumental in helping to form the new Canadian Biosphere Reserves Association / l'Association Canadienne des Reserves de la Biosphere, which was incorporated with charitable status under federal statutes in 1998. The Association continues to expand the work of the (former) Canada/MAB Working Group on Biosphere Reserves, and in cooperation with the Canadian Commission for UNESCO and whatever arrangements are made for a reorganized Canada/MAB (still under discussion at this time). The LPBR also co-sponsored with the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Reserve two "Leading Edge" conferences, in 1997 and 1999; these brought together people from a wide array of scientific, professional, business and artistic backgrounds to present and exchange information about these two biosphere reserves.
A website is being maintained and there are plans to link it to major background studies such as Nelson and Wilcox (1996) and Petrie (1998). See:

Through twinning and/or transboundary biosphere reserves:
Not applicable. During a visit to Canada from a delegation from China/MAB in 1996, the idea of some twinning arrangement with Yancheng Biosphere Reserve in China was discussed. The logistics to bring this about have not been pursued.
Within the World Network (including Regional Networks):
Representatives from the LPBR participated in the Canadian delegation to the Seville Conference in 1995, in the biosphere reserves managers meeting in Finland in 1998, and a UNESCO conference for young scientists in Paris, 1998.
Obstacles encountered, measures to be taken and, if appropriate, assistance expected from the Secretariat.
[No comments from representatives of the LPBR].
