Briefly describe the climate of the area using one of the common climate classifications.
The Long Point Biosphere Reserve (LPBR) lies within the "Moderate Temperate Ecoclimatic Province" and the "Humid High Moderate Temperate Region" (HMTh) of the Ecoclimatic Regions of Canada. Summers are humid and warm to hot; winters are mild and snowy. The mean daily temperature is above 0o C for 8-9 months a year.
Average daily temperature of the warmest month: 20.7o C
Average daily temperature of the coldest month: -4.7o C
Mean annual precipitation: 947.6 mm (of which 113.1 mm is snow) recorded at an elevation of 186m.
Data are from the Port Dover meteorological station on the mainland located at 42o 47' N, 80o 13' W. The station at Long Point itself does not operate from January to March -- the average daily temperature of the warmest month there is 21.3o C.
