Management plan/policy

Indicate if a management plan or policy exists for the overall biosphere reserve.

Because of the divided jurisdiction and the extent of private land ownership within the biosphere reserve, there is no overall biosphere reserve management plan or policy in place. Biosphere reserve functions have to be carried out on a voluntary basis. A main challenge of the LPBR is to help informally to coordinate this where desirable.

The main policies and plans which are associated with the biosphere reserve:

When the LPBR was designated in 1986, the following plans were guiding the main government agencies: The Official Plan for the Haldimand-Norfolk Planning Area (Regional Municipality); Watershed Plan, and Shoreline Management Plan (Long Point Region Conservation Authority); Management Plans for the Long Point National Wildlife Area and for the Big Creek National Wildlife Area (Canadian Wildlife Service); Management Plan for Long Point Provincial Park and for the Crown Marsh (Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources).

If yes, briefly describe the main characteristics of this plan and precise the modes of application.

Given the severe reductions in budgets and staff at all governmental levels during the past decade, and the current re-structuring of municipal government for the area, these plans no longer provide strong guidance, nor have they been up-dated.
