The Long Point World Biosphere Reserve Foundation is a nonprofit partner of 1% for the Planet, an alliance of over 1,200 contributing member companies and 3500 receiving agencies. As part of this program, the Long Point Biosphere is eligible to receive donations from participating contributors, placing us among a diverse, global network of benefitting environmental organizations.
This partnership greatly expands the potential pool of funding to which the Long Point Biosphere can look to for support. As of 2015, over $150 million has been distributed to nonprofit partners working to improve the health of our Earth, or as they like to say at 1% for the Planet – those funds have been given back to “Blue”.
The Long Point Biosphere is grateful for contributions made to our past and ongoing projects thanks to the 1% community.
1% for the Planet was founded in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder and owner of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, owner of Blue Ribbon Flies. 1% for the Planet is a growing global movement of over 1,200 member companies in 48 countries all donating at least 1% of their annual sales directly to over 3500 nonprofit environmental organizations worldwide to support sustainability initiatives. Their mission is to “build, support and activate an alliance of businesses financially committed to creating a healthy planet.” As a network, the 1% community has become a frontrunner in funding the work of environmental groups around the world.
