Become a Biosphere Ambassador
The Long Point Biosphere Region is internationally recognized for its rich natural heritage and biodiversity. We want to share what makes it special with residents, visitors, and youth through engaging learning experiences, community events, and local talks that foster connection to this extraordinary place.
The Long Point Biosphere Region is recruiting volunteer Ambassadors who will represent the Biosphere and help share its story across the region, as well as experienced educators as interpretive guides.
Ambassadors may be invited to contribute in a variety of ways, including:
- Assisting at the Long Point Turtle Hatchery at Long Point Eco-Adventures
- Delivering presentations to service clubs, schools, and other community groups
- Representing the Biosphere at local farmers’ markets, festivals, and community events
- Assisting with interpretive hikes
- Providing training to tourism operators and frontline staff about the biosphere region and its UNESCO designation as a powerful marketing and storytelling tool
Interpretive guides will lead hikes along Norfolk County trails for youth using our Lessons in a Backpack curriculum, as well as lead participants of all ages on new Biosphere Walks to learn more about the region. Honorariums will be provided for lead guides. First aid certification and a basic knowledge and/or proven experience in nature-based education is required for this role.
Training, mentorship, and practical resources will be provided to all Ambassadors and Interpretive Guides.
When you become a Biosphere Ambassador with the Long Point Biosphere Region, you’ll have the opportunity to raise awareness about the conservation issues and species that matter most to you, directly support local wildlife conservation programs, spend more time outdoors exploring the region’s trails, stay active and adventurous, learn new things about the landscapes around you, and connect with a welcoming community of like-minded people.
Join us to develop new skills, explore pathways in nature-based education, connect with like-minded community members, and help give our wildlife and landscapes a strong, informed voice. Submit an application by March 11, 2026. We’ll contact you with information about an upcoming training session.
